elegy for Aisha
Aisha, a 12 year old Somali girl in galkacyo, was gang raped and murdered on the 25th of February. She was dumped near her home and was discovered by her family.
I don't know what to think or feel at this point. A soul can bear so much before it gives in. But, on the sorrowful night of this crime, this is what I felt/thought:
bodies torn asunder,
clawed for the climax
of a momentary pleasure
what word does the girl
put in as she is fashioned
to man's desire, peering out
always through their lustful eyes
but aisha was torn too early
from her mother's arms, at 12
violated violently by stronger arms
what did those grown men think as
they heaved above her, and she as
she gave in from under?
I avenge you in words my
dearest sister, for I am not that
arm of justice that falls
heavily (this day remains
heavily in my heart)
I am not that force that can
bring vile men to knees.
flames already in their bellies,
may they never be offered the
chance to repent, or to forget your
eyes, your eyes that shined with life.
(never forget the souls taken by wrongful hands. god will never forget and I pray never forgive)
